Jerome Lynch elected 2021 EMI Fellow
Four fellows were elected this year in recognition of their exemplary research and service.
The board of the Engineering Mechanics Institute (EMI) of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) elected Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor and Donald Malloure Department Chair Jerome Lynch to the grade of EMI Fellow on May 4, 2021.
The EMI Fellowship celebrates “individual members with a distinguished record of research, accomplishments and service to the Institute,” according to the ASCE website.
Lynch’s expertise centers on the boundary of traditional civil engineering and related disciplines, using computing and sensing technologies to assess the resilience and deterioration of infrastructure such as bridges and pipes. In his work with the Laboratory for Intelligent Systems and Technologies, Lynch works closely with the Urban Collaboratory to solve on-the-ground challenges and build smarter, healthier cities.
Lynch has also served on a number of EMI committees, including as a member of the Objective Resilience Committee and Structural Health Monitoring and Controls Committee, and as Associate Editor for the Journal of Engineering Mechanics.
The 2021 class of EMI Fellows was honored in an awards ceremony during the EMI and Probabilistic Mechanics & Reliability Conference on May 27.
