Bridging Construction and Sustainability: CEE Invites Applications for Innovative Scholars Program
CEE is thrilled to announce the commencement of an exciting new program: the Construction Management and Sustainability Scholars Program (CMSSP). The program is now accepting applications for the academic year 2023-24, with a deadline to apply on January 5, 2024.
The CMSSP seeks to spur innovative solutions to pressing sustainability and construction management issues by harnessing a variety of disciplined viewpoints. As an integral part of this engaging program, students will develop crucial leadership skills, shaping impactful careers that make an extensive contribution to society.
The program owes its existence to a generous gift by Dan and Sheryl Tishman through the Northlight Foundation. The foundation invests in the intersection of the environment and human landscapes, pressing toward sustainable and enduring solutions for environmental and human health.
This immersive program offers a comprehensive educational experience with three key components: a summer internship or embedded ambassadorship, a thematic national or international trip, and an annual construction management and sustainability conference. In addition, scholars will develop crucial interpersonal and professional skills through interaction and collaboration with faculty, staff, peer scholars, and various external industry and community stakeholders.
Students undertaking this course will engage with non-profit organizations, think tanks, and other entities with a focus on sustainability and construction management. A learner-centric approach is maintained throughout, encouraging problem-solving, creative thinking, and teamwork skills.
An attractive part of the program is that scholars can receive up to $7,500 in tuition remission, along with other related expenses paid for by the university.
Eligibility extends to all Junior class (>55 credit hours) undergraduate civil and environmental engineering students who have undertaken CEE 265 (Sustainable Engineering Principles) and are co-enrolled in CEE 331 (Construction Management).
Admission to this program is selective, prioritizing students with a demonstrated interest in sustainability and construction management.
The faculty advisory board includes Carol Menassa, Ph.D., F. ASCE, David Kelly, Ph.D., P.E., and Vineet Kamat, Ph.D., F. ASCE, NAC.
This is a remarkable opportunity for current students looking to make a tangible impact in the fields of construction management and sustainability. You can direct any queries regarding the program to CMSSP-TCMP@umich.edu.
